バイデン政権におけるCAFE基準の見直し

2021年09月03日、米国の自動車燃費規制として知られるCAFE基準（企業平均燃費基準）を改正する規則案が公表され、意見募集が開始されました。意見募集は2021年10月26日までとなっています。

2021年01月20日、バイデン大統領は「公衆衛生および環境の保護ならびに気候危機に対処するための科学回復」大統領令に署名し、「2021-2026年モデルの乗用車および小型トラックを対象とした低燃費車（SAFE）規則」が、コミットメントと整合性があるかどうかを直ちに見直すよう指示していました。

その後、大統領は運輸長官に対して、2021年7月までに新たな提案を経て「中断、修正、取り消し」を検討するよう指示しており、今回はその流れを受けての改正規則案となっています。

以上の背景より、今回の規則案において国家道路運輸安全局（NHTSA）は、2020年に設定された燃費基準は、2024年から2026年までの各モデルイヤーにおいて、乗用車と小型トラックの両方で、前年比8％の割合で上昇するように修正すべきだと暫定的に結論づけています。
